The OBIS Manual

The OBIS Manual is the official guide to contributing data to and accessing data from the Ocean Biodiversity Information System (OBIS). It provides guidelines for OBIS nodes and data providers, ensuring that data published via OBIS are of high quality and adhere to internationally recognized standards, and serves as a resource for data users on how to access, process, and visualize OBIS data.

Topics include data standards and Darwin Core, formatting datasets (occurrence, event, extended measurement or fact, DNA-derived data), quality control, data publishing with the IPT, and data visualization, along with tutorials and FAQs.

The manual is available online at manual.obis.org. This archive contains the Quarto source (text, figures, and build configuration) from which the manual website and PDF are rendered. The manual is a living document, revised regularly. Suggestions are welcome via helpdesk@obis.org or as issues at github.com/iobis/manual/issues.
