Signing In
The catalog uses ORCID for authentication. Click "Sign in with ORCID" on the login page to authenticate using your existing ORCID account.
Access is controlled by an approved whitelist. If your ORCID iD is not on the list, you'll see a message directing you to contact helpdesk@obis.org to request access.
On your first approved login, the catalog will:
- Create a catalog account linked to your ORCID iD
- Add you to the OBIS Community organization as an editor
- Use your name and email from your ORCID profile

Organization Membership
When you create a new product, it will be assigned to one of your organizations. By default, all new users belong to OBIS Community. If you need to create products under a specific OBIS node, contact helpdesk@obis.org to request membership.
When editing an existing product, you cannot change its owning organization — it stays with the node that originally created it. Only sysadmins can reassign products between organizations.
Joining an Organization
Organization membership is managed by org admins and sysadmins. To join a specific OBIS node, contact helpdesk@obis.org.
Joining an Institution (Group)
Any logged-in user can add themselves or others to an institution. Navigate to the institution's page via Browse → Institutions, then use the Manage Members link to add members.
Editing Your Profile
To update your display name, email, or profile photo:
- Click your username in the top navigation
- Select Profile settings
- Make your changes and submit
Because the catalog uses ORCID for authentication, your identity is re-verified via ORCID when you save profile changes. You will be briefly redirected to ORCID and back.
